bnkblksm.jpg (4545 bytes)Elmwood is a city with small town values and big city opportunities. Our pioneer heritage and our enterprising values give us the initiative to reach out to families seeking relocation into a central Illinois community. Elmwood is that community. Incorporated in 1892, Elmwood has had a slow but steady growth.

  • Elmwood is a community that respects agricultural tradition as we progress into the future with further development in the region.
  • Elmwood, with it's tree-lined streets, is a clean, friendly, prosperous, proud community. Elmwood is located close  to larger cities that offer cultural and entertainment variety, yet is far enough away to offer a serene haven to individuals and families.

grdschoolsmalljpg.jpg (4787 bytes)Elmwood Community Unit School District #322, consists of  the communities of Edwards, Oak Hill, and Elmwood. It encompasses an area of 72 square miles. Elmwood is recognized in central Illinois for outstanding academic achievement, innovative programs and a solid basic skills curriculum. Elmwood is proud to be a charter member of the Essential Schools Coalition and The Accelerated Schools Movement- nationally recognized efforts to improve the quality of education. Students are expected to master essential skills and pursue quality in an atmosphere of unanxious expectations, openness and honesty. Students, parents, staff, and citizens work together to create a learning community in which excellence can thrive. Students demonstrate mastery of learning through cross-curricular projects. Our students consistently score above state and national averages on a variety of achievement tests. Graduates of Elmwood District #322 automatically meet or exceed admission standards for Illinois public universities.

Our modern, well maintained elementary and junior/senior high school campus reflects the community’s pride in its schools. Our community’s support and involvement, coupled with our excellent student/teacher ratio, gives a private school feeling to the public schools. The true worth of the community can be measured by the regard shown for its children. The Elmwood Education Foundation and the Ekstrand Educational Trust are endowments established to provide post-high school educational opportunities to deserving Elmwood graduates (70-75% of each graduating class). Any student who is willing to achieve excellence in the classroom, to participate in school activities and to volunteer in school and community service is eligible to receive a scholarship award. Elmwood students are beneficiaries of these endowments because our community members truly understand the value of educational opportunity.
